Pokémon Platinum Cheat Codes

Platinum is a DS game, so there is one cheat device worth naming: Action Replay DS. Every code below is written for it, which is why this page has no device switcher — a second button that changed nothing would be pretending you had a choice.

What Platinum codes do have is button activators. Many of these cheats only fire while you hold a specific combination, and nothing happens until you do. Where a code needs one, the row says so.

Platinum shipped in more than one revision, and lists in circulation target different ones. The same cheat can appear elsewhere with a different offset or a different button combo — if a code here does nothing, a revision mismatch is the likeliest reason.

Action Replay DS codes, searchable. Where a row names a button combination, the cheat only fires while you hold it — that is the usual reason a correct code appears to do nothing.

Cheat device

  1. 01Open your emulator’s cheat list. In DeSmuME that is Tools → List Cheats → Add, and in melonDS or Delta it is the Cheats entry in the menu.
  2. 02Add a new Action Replay DS code and give it a name you will recognise later.
  3. 03Paste every line of the code. Platinum codes are long — some run to dozens of lines — and every line belongs to the same cheat.
  4. 04Where a row names buttons, the cheat only fires while you hold them. Nothing happens until you do.
  5. 05Enable it, load your save, and disable it once it has done its job.

Button Activators, and Why Nothing Happened

Most Action Replay DS codes for Platinum are conditional. The line beginning 94000130 is a button check: the rest of the code only runs while the buttons named in it are held down. Enable the cheat, hold the combination, and the effect lands — usually instantly, and usually in a menu you then have to open to see.

This is the reason people report a code doing nothing when it is working perfectly. An item code that fills your bag on L + R has not failed; it has not been triggered. The rows on this page name the combination where there is one.

A few codes have no activator and run continuously — the catch rate and TM compatibility cheats among them. Those take effect as soon as the cheat is enabled.

Entering Codes in DeSmuME, melonDS and Delta

DeSmuME keeps cheats under Tools, in List Cheats. Add a new Action Replay DS code, paste every line, give it a name and tick it. melonDS and Delta on iOS follow the same pattern from their own menus.

Platinum codes are long. Several of the item cheats run to dozens of lines, and every line belongs to the same cheat — paste the whole block into one entry rather than splitting it. Splitting an Action Replay DS code across entries does not work the way the My Boy workaround does on Game Boy Advance.

Enable the cheat before loading your save, or reload after enabling it. Some codes only initialise when the save loads.

What to Watch For

Item cheats that fill a pocket are the ones to be careful with. Platinum sorts items into pockets with limited slots, and a cheat that fills one with 995 of everything leaves nowhere for the items you find afterwards. Prefer the specific codes over the fill-everything ones unless that is genuinely what you want.

The shiny and encounter cheats carry the same risk they do across the series: enable one, catch something, and you may end up with a party entry the game did not expect. Save before you start and keep a save you are willing to lose.

Pokémon obtained through cheats will not transfer to later generations through the official routes, which check for legitimacy. If you were planning to move a cheated Pokémon forward, it will not survive the trip.

Revisions and Why Lists Disagree

Platinum released in more than one revision, and a code written against one build can point at the wrong memory address in another. The visible symptom is a code that does nothing at all while other codes from the same list work.

This is also why two reputable sites will publish the same cheat with different hex. Neither is lying; they are describing different builds. The codes here are the ones several publishers agree on, which is the best available proxy for the build most people are running.

If a code fails, the useful next step is to try another source’s version of the same cheat rather than assuming the cheat itself is fictional.

Frequently Asked Questions

What device do Pokémon Platinum cheat codes use?

Action Replay DS. It is the only cheat device these codes are written for, which is why this page has no device switcher. DS emulators such as DeSmuME and melonDS accept Action Replay DS codes directly.

Why is my Platinum Action Replay code not working?

Two usual causes. Most Platinum codes only fire while you hold a button combination — the line starting 94000130 is that check, and nothing happens until the buttons are held. The other is a revision mismatch: Platinum had more than one release and codes are build-specific.

What does the 94000130 line mean in a Platinum code?

It is a button condition. The value after it encodes which buttons must be held for the rest of the code to run. It is not an error and it is not optional — leave it in, and hold the combination the cheat calls for.

Can I transfer cheated Pokémon to newer games?

No. The official transfer routes check Pokémon for legitimacy, and ones created or modified by cheats fail those checks. Anything obtained this way stays in Platinum.

Do I need to enter every line of a Platinum code?

Yes. Some of these codes run to dozens of lines and all of them belong to one cheat. Paste the whole block into a single Action Replay DS entry — unlike the Game Boy Advance workaround, splitting a DS code across entries does not work.
