The Sims 4 Cheats

The Sims 4 has one cheat bar and about two hundred things you can type into it. This is the set that people actually use, grouped by what it does and searchable, so finding the one you want takes a second rather than a scroll through a wall of text.

Pick your platform below and the instructions change with it — the codes themselves are identical everywhere, only the way you open the console differs.

Running testingcheats true switches off Achievements on PC and Trophies on console for the save you are playing. That is the trade, and no cheat on this page works without it.

How Cheats Work in The Sims 4

Every cheat goes into the same place: a single-line bar that opens across the top of the screen. On PC that is Ctrl + Shift + C, on Mac Command + Shift + C, and on both PlayStation and Xbox it is all four shoulder buttons held together. Type, press Enter, and the bar answers you — either with a confirmation or with an error telling you the command was not recognised.

The first thing you type is almost always the same. testingcheats true switches the cheat system on. Without it the three money words still work, and essentially nothing else does. The game will accept the text and quietly do nothing, which is why so many people conclude a cheat is broken when it is simply not enabled.

Cheats fall into two shapes, and knowing which is which saves a lot of guessing. The old ones are single words with no punctuation — motherlode, rosebud, kaching. The modern ones are dotted commands that name a system and an action, like bb.moveobjects on or stats.set_skill_level. The dotted ones take arguments after a space, and the space is the only separator the parser understands.

A few of the most useful cheats are not typed at all. With testingcheats on, holding Shift and clicking a Sim opens a hidden menu with Cheat Need, Make Happy and Modify in CAS on it. Shift-clicking the mailbox or the ground gives you a different set again. It is the same cheat system, reached through the mouse instead of the keyboard.

What Cheating Actually Costs You

One thing, and it is worth being precise about it. Enabling testingcheats disables Achievements on PC and Trophies on PlayStation and Xbox for the save file you are playing. It is not a permanent account-level penalty and it does not follow you to other saves — but on that save, it is done.

The three legacy money words are the exception people ask about most. They pre-date the cheat console as it exists now and do not require testingcheats, which is why they are still the first thing most players type.

Nothing here can damage a save. Cheats in The Sims 4 are not memory edits; they call the same functions the game calls. The worst realistic outcome is a Sim stuck in an object after a careless bb.moveobjects placement, and resetSim fixes that.

The other common cause is a wrong internal ID — Cooking is Major_HomestyleCooking and Fitness is Skill_Fitness, not the names shown on the skill panel.

Are Sims 4 cheats the same on console?

The codes are identical. Only the way you open the bar differs — hold all four shoulder buttons instead of pressing a key combination — and you type with the on-screen keyboard.

Can cheats break my save?

Not realistically. Sims 4 cheats call the game’s own functions rather than editing memory. The one thing to be careful with is bb.moveobjects, which can leave a Sim unable to reach an object; resetSim with the Sim’s first and last name clears that.
